Reading to the pumpkins

Who remembers....

.....Real Rosie from Sesame Street singing Chicken Soup with Rice!

Found it while searching around You Tube with the boy for songs.

We also listen to an Gene Kelly singing "Singing in the Rain".

We also like this kid version!

I-man was doing his version the other day with his new black umbrella, rain boots, rain puddles, He was singing Twinkle Twinkle and Baa Baa Blacksheep. It was quite hilarious. Wish I'd had a video of it.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When asked, the I-man says "A flute player. And a dog"
Should be interesting!

Where is everyone?

I'm up....6:55am on a Sunday morning (could it be because I fell asleep at 8pm last night?). Where is everyone? No one on-line....

Can you find them?

Can you find the elusive Red-billed Hovis and the I-man?

Friday, September 19, 2008

IS this a problem?

Do you think it's a problem than I-man is fascinated with the Homer Simpson magnet that says "Alcohol, the solution to and cause of all of life's problems". He's playing it over and over in the kitchen right now.

OK---this post is dedicated to my friend Lizard. I am sorry I haven't posted in so long and that I really have nothing of interest to say. Work is workBare with me...this writer's block is sure to pass. Creative writers can't be great all of the time!

Jogging partner for rent

Great jogging partner for those who prefer to jog in the shade, take short cuts home, and stop frequently to pee on the bushes....

Feel good about your exercise routine!

I had a patient today who was telling me all about this really great stationary bike her son got her for Mother's Day. She explained that it told her the calories burned, distance, time, etc. SHe was very proud and excited about it and the exercise she's doing with it. I thought it was great to hear her so excited about her new exercise!

She then told me she rides 2 minutes 3 times a day. She was very proud of this. Oh, and she uses small 3 lb dumbbells for arm exercises when she rides.

So....all of YOU should be pretty darn proud of whatever you are able to accomplish in the world of activity/exercise!

Sister's profession?

Why does my sister (yes, I have a sister) have THREE Fisher Price barns in her basement? She won't even share one with her little nephew....

What does YOUR toothbrush look like?

Got a green version of this toothbrush
for the I-man. Has changed my life. He will now brush his own teeth instead of fighting and screaming when I tried to brush his teeth with the lame old boring ones we had before....
Got the Crayola version because all others were totally stoooooopid character things. Geez. Did we have this much crap marketing when we were kids?

Latest farm haul

Here is what I got on Wednesday after spending 3 hours tilling the cabbage patch and helping to squash potato beetle larvae. The radishes were so sharp that I couldn't even eat them. And Ike ate about 1/2 of the strawberries in one sitting....

Garden update

Here is a recent pic of the front perennial garden. Seems to have sprouted a little car and a 2 year old.

Rotten neighbor

After talking to our neighbor at least twice yesterday about turning down his music we finally called the police on him. Our other neighbor also talked to him about turning it down. He mostly just played it louder. Jerk. I was telling my brother about it this morning and he told me about this website: Rotten Neighbor
Look for him soon on this site!!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally ruined my afternoon yesterday.

...emerging from Longest Winter Ever

Yes, I'm still here. Really had absolutely nothing interesting to post in the last month. Stay tuned for this year's garden posts! Here's the garden after The Parents and I cleaned out the leaves and got it ready for spring. Finally, finally, finally I think spring is here.

p.s. crappy neighbor is currently blaring crappy music. He has added another crappy large item to his yard. Would you all like to see pictures of his yard?

Weather today

Here is our weather report for the day:
"Cloudy with gusty winds. High 46F. Winds SW at 25 to 35 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph."

I THINK THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT THROUGH ANOTHER DAY OF CRAPPY WEATHER AND NO SUN IS TO EAT..........LOTS OF CHOCOLATE.

All those books!

We have a little obsession with picture books these days. We make weekly trips to the library and come out with an arm load of books. I search Amazon for suggestions for new titles and authors, I chat with friends about it. What were some of your favorite books? The current favorite in the house is "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". There is an awesome You Tube video of the author reading the story...check it out. We aren't' quite sure why this guy gets to take credit for writing this book...isn't it an old camp song?

Beautifying the neighborhood

Amazing how a blanket of fresh snow can actually make the redneck, white-trash neighbor's yard look lovely! I may just enlarge this photo and hang it out the window so this is the view I get everyday. I love how the snow hides the bulldozer on his hill and all the other junk in his yard.

Which shirt?

I really cannot get over how awesome this outfit might be for I-man's birthday party. Do you vote for the red vintage shirt or the tuxedo shirt underneath?

Cholesterol!

OK!!!!!!!! The numbers are in!
The Husband: Total Cholesterol: 146, LDL 92, Triglycerides 73, HDL 39
MINE: TC: 143, LDL 70, TG 27, HDL 68

I kicked his ass AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neighborhood hang-out

It's so frickin' cold here today that our feeder has become the neighborhood hang-out. Warmth in numbers, I guess. Or else it's the only place that stayed open on such a cold day.

Which one of these does not belong?

Sunday, February 03, 2008

Which of these?

Which of these items (dog excluded) turns out to be the most fun for I-man to bang with the wooden spoon? Thanks to Aunty H. for teaching him this type of drumming...

Backyard conference

Apparently the Cardinals planned a conference at our back feeder this morning.

Gift for the nephew

The Husband is back from Hawaii. He did complete his mission to get a snowglobe for the nephew (who is collecting snowglobes from around the country), but wasn't able to find one in Hawaii (the lady in the gift shop looked at him a bit strange when he asked it they had any). Instead had to settle for one from LA. Here it is!

Another day off!!!!!!!!!!!

Schools are closed today!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!! Ice and cold here. Unfortunately I got up at 5:40 and unlike when I was a kid and got a snow day, I couldn't go back to sleep. Hmmmm....'suppose you are all having fun at work today!

Monday, January 28, 2008

Sick day

I've been home all weekend with a sick kid while The Husband is frolicking in Hawaii. Today we are also home, but unlike the weekend we are both feeling better. I called in sick to work and I hear about 1/2 the kids at I-man's "school" have also been sick and 2 teachers are out...so best not to go back to that germ-filled place today! So...the boy is feeling about 80%, so it feels like kind of free day at home. What would YOU do with a guilt-free day off?

Comparison photo

OK--here's a comparison photo. I need to find a hat like Emil for him!

Anyone think my kid looks like this Astrid Lindgren character?

Middle-age sport

Since retiring from Ultimate Frisbee two years ago I've been struggling to find another sport. I played soccer for years and then Ultimate for years and really missed that group sport thing and a really good work out. I've done some jogging and walking and cardio machines at the gym, but that just wasn't really the same. I had a great time cross-country skiing in Minnesota over New Year's, but we don't really have the luxury of good snow year-round here. The Holiday abundance of food also seems to have done a number on my waistline as many of my pants aren't really fitting right now, sigh...

Hmm...so I think I may have found my next sport. I'm not going to tell you just YET. First I thought I would get YOUR ideas about what might be a good "middle-age sport" for me. I'm a bit slow and have some trouble with my knees, but am still flexible. I'm sure you will all have some interesting ideas...let's hear them.
